ENVIRO
- YOU
The only thing I will throw
out my car window is an apple core - I know that some animal
will enjoy it later that day. And even when I have finished eating
my apple and am ready to get rid of the sticky remains, I feel
so guilty about littering that I wait until no one is behind
me before I toss it out the window. ( I don't consider throwing
out something that is biodegradable as littering but I think
that someone who sees me throwing something out the window may
think it is just trash and will think badly of me - talk about
guilt complex!)
With that in mind, I got
upset this morning as I was coming home from Flemington, NJ.
I saw a woman throw a piece of paper out
the driver's side window. I am not sure why this angered me so
much. I guess because, more than ever before, we hear so much
about protecting the environment. NOT littering is one extremely
easy way for each of us to play a part in the overall "clean
up the environment" movement.
The first part of May George and I were vacationing in St.
John. (Yes, we were on vacation - just the two of us - no
relatives
or friends tagging along - it was wonderful) St. John is a
very dry island. All the drinkable/usable water is either
brought
onto the island form the mainland, stored in cisterns (rainwater),
or converted from sea water. People all over the island take
very short showers and conserve water however they can. Upon
our return to New Hope, I became more aware of my water consumption
and REALLY appreciated my first hot shower that first day home.
At some later date I think
I will post information on how we can each do more to save energy
and resources. Small changes
in our lives today can protect resources that our grandchildren
will have access to in years to come.
